Technical Development Operations Specialist

On-Site/Philadelphia, PA

About the Position

The Technical Development Operations Specialist is responsible for enabling efficient execution of Technical Development activities through effective laboratory planning, scheduling, laboratory inventory management, shipping/logistics, and operational coordination. This individual will work closely with Process Development, Analytical Development, MSAT and other cross-functional partners to ensure laboratories are appropriately resourced and that materials, samples, equipment and operational processes are available when needed.

The role serves as a central operational point of contact for Technical Development, translating project priorities and experimental plans into coordinated laboratory activities. The successful candidate will bring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a continuous improvement mindset to a fast-paced biotechnology environment.

Responsibilities Include

  • Coordinate and maintain laboratory scheduling across Technical Development teams, including shared laboratory spaces, equipment, and other constrained resources
  • Partner with scientific teams to translate development plans and project priorities into executable laboratory schedules
  • Maintain inventory management processes for laboratory consumables, raw materials, and other development supplies
  • Partner with scientists to forecast material requirements and coordinate replenishment to ensure materials are available to support planned laboratory activities
  • Partner with scientists and cross-functional stakeholders to anticipate operational needs and help resolve scheduling, material, or resource conflicts
  • Serve as liaison between the Technical Development organization and the Lab Operations team to enable effective partnership
  • Identify and escalate lab-related bottlenecks (e.g., lab space issues, equipment availability, etc.)
  • Support training of new team members on Technical Development operations
  • Identify opportunities to reduce material waste, expired inventory, redundant purchases and unnecessary costs
  • Coordinate shipment of time-sensitive materials and samples
  • Coordinate receipt, reconciliation, storage and distribution of incoming materials and samples
  • Track equipment status and proactively communicate downtime or capacity constraints to laboratory teams
  • Support the development and maintenance of standard operating processes, workflows, templates, and other tools to improve consistency and efficiency across Technical Development
  • Assist with capacity and resource planning by collecting and maintaining data related to laboratory utilization, equipment needs, and upcoming development activities
  • Compile operational metrics and identify trends or recurring issues that may inform process improvements
  • Identify opportunities to improve day-to-day Technical Development operations and support the development of practical tools, processes, and ways of working that increase efficiency and visibility
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered
  • Approximately 2-3 years of experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical laboratory operations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with scientists, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams; experience with project management, inventory, or laboratory management systems is a plus
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple activities, priorities, and timelines
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records, trackers, schedules, and documentation
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented approach with an interest in identifying opportunities to improve processes and ways of working
  • Ability to anticipate needs, follow through on commitments, and escalate potential issues or constraints appropriately
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment where processes may still be developing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting laboratory-based scientific or technical organizations
  • Ability to anticipate operational constraints and proactively develop solutions
  • Experience working in regulated biotechnology or pharmaceutical environment
  • Exposure to cell & gene therapy
