Associate Scientist, Translational Medicine

About the Position

Reporting to the Director, Translational Medicine, we are seeking an experienced, motivated, detail-oriented, and highly skilled Associate Scientist within our Translational Medicine team. 

Under scientific and technical supervision, the individual will be responsible for clinical sample management activities and perform various cell-based, flow cytometric and other molecular biology assays on clinical samples which will provide data and insight on the safety and efficacy of Cabaletta’s clinical candidates. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for cell line generation and maintenance to assist in the development of novel cell-based assays for the Translational Medicine team. The candidate should be a highly motivated self-starter with well-established organizational skills who is excited to be a part of the biotechnology industry. 

Responsibilities Include

  • Work closely with the Director, Translational Medicine on the management and handling of clinical samples, both internally and externally, including supporting the shipping and receiving of clinical samples.
  • Maintain GLP-compliant and detailed records for clinical sample lifecycle (receipt, usage, etc.).
  • Routinely perform qualified flow cytometric assays to characterize our clinical manufactured product and other immune cells in patient PBMC samples.
  • Perform protein purification of clinical serum samples for use in qualified assays.
  • Generate clonal cell lines using lentivirus-based technology, cell sorting, and/or cell printing for suspension cell lines used in novel cell-based assays.
  • Manage multiple internal projects / workstreams simultaneously.
  • Accurately capture data in a timely manner, ensuring data integrity and protocol compliance.
  • Perform lab associated tasks in accordance with GLP and Cabaletta Bio lab safety policies and SOPs.

Required Qualifications

  • MS degree in Biology, Bioengineering, or related field with 2+ years or Bachelor’s degree with 2-4+ years of experience in the biotechnology industry required
  • Experience with clinical sample handling and inventory management
  • Previous experience with GLP/GCP & ICH regulations
  • Significant lab experience including aseptic technique, mammalian cell culture, expertise in cell husbandry and human tissue handling required
  • Must be highly organized and efficient, able to work independently. Strong problem-solving skills are preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly verbally and in writing
  • Must have a desire to be part of a growing organization that uses cutting-edge science
  • Strong team orientation and passion for continuous self-development
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced small company environment and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in cytotoxicity assays (such as IncuCyte, xCELLigence, 51Cr or luciferase-based assays)
  • Experience with flow cytometry
  • Experience in industry or in a startup industrial setting is preferred
